Cara Cottage is an end-terrace cottage set in a stunning location, close to all the amenities of the charming seaside village of Aberdovey / Aberdyfi.  Cara Cottage has been tastefully modernised but retains its original charm. The views are exceptional, encompassing the village, sandy beach, lifeboat station and open sea as well as the hills across the estuary which appears to change colour depending on the season.

Situated a short walk away from the Dovey Inn and conveniently close to the shops, pubs, restaurants and all amenities, CARA Cottage is also minutes away from the beach, jetty (for your crabbing), water sports, and beautiful mountain walks and located next to the Welsh Coastal Path.

CARA Cottage is ideally placed for Aberdovey's / Aberdyfi's  local attractions with good hill walking at your front door, a four mile sandy beach, a championship links Aberdovey Golf Club and great places to eat and drink.

Further afield you can explore the Ynys-Hir RSPB Reserve which is a wildlife haven in the heart of Wales, made famous by the BBC Spring Watch programme, The Dyfi Osprey Project (please follow the link to watch live:, The Ceredigion Heritage Coast along Cardigan Bay, the Cambrian Mountains and not forgetting the lakes, small towns and villages, picturesque resorts and harbours.

The cottage was built at the turn of the last century to house staff of Penhelig Lodge. The external walls are 18" thick, very much needed due to its elevated position. A multifuel stove in the lounge gives the cottage an extra homely feel, especially on chilly evenings and for winter breaks.

Sleeps 5 guests in 1 double bedroom, 1 twin bedroom and 1 single bedroom.

Gas central heating and full double glazing.

Ground Floor

Entrance opens to the porch and leads to the open plan living/dining room and kitchen.

Living/Dining Room - The open plan lounge has a leather suite with cushions, LCD TV, side tables and multi-fuel stove (logs are not provided but can be purchased locally).

Kitchen - Fitted kitchen has electric hob, electric oven and dishwasher. 

Utility Room - Small utility room from the kitchen has fridge/freezer, washing machine, sink and additional storage units.

Downstairs W.C -  toilet and wash basin. 


First Floor

Bedroom 1 - Front bedroom has a king size bed, built in wardrobe, chest of drawers. South facing views over Aberdovey/Aberdyfi and the estuary. 

Bedroom 2 - Twin beds, built in wardrobe, chest of drawers.   

Bedroom 3 - Single bed and wardrobe.

Shower Room - Walk in shower, toilet and wash basin.

Outside area - Front patio with table and bench, ideal to sit and enjoy the beautiful views. As there are open gardens and steep drops to the front and side of the cottage, the garden may not be suitable for young children.

Aberdyfi / Aberdovey

The picturesque harbour village of Aberdyfi / Aberdovey is renowned for its mild climate, sandy beaches, sailing and a championship 18-hole links golf course (rated in the UK's top 100). The village is often referred to as “an artist's paradise” with its pastel-coloured cottages, small shops, inns and excellent restaurants which specialise in local seafood, all helping to create a relaxed welcoming atmosphere. Aberdyfi / Aberdovey boasts some of the finest beaches in Britain, with four miles of golden sand-dune backed shoreline running north to Tywyn, home of the world-famous Talyllyn narrow gauge Steam Railway, crab fishing and the famous Dyfi Donkeys. The beaches are popular with sunbathers, swimmers, surfers and fishermen while the estuary attracts a wide range of water sports enthusiasts.

The peaks of the Cader Idris and Aran Fawddwy ranges are within easy reach and are complemented by the charm of the Dyfi, Dysynni and Tal y Llyn valleys nearby. An ideal area for walkers, climbers and wildlife watchers, and a wonderful all-year-round location.

Booking and Payment

Dyfi Cottages & Aberdyfi Holidays is a marketing agency and we do not own or manage any of the accommodation listed on our websites. Bookings made via us form a legal agreement between you and the property owner.

For bookings made more than 8 weeks before arrival, a 30% deposit of the total cost of the holiday plus the £24 non-refundable booking fee is required at the time of booking. The balance is then due 8 weeks before the holiday commences.

For bookings made less than 8 weeks before arrival, the total amount is payable plus the £24 non-refundable booking fee at the time of booking.

Security Deposit

Security deposits are not required. Please note that guests are still liable for any damage, breakages or additional cleaning required as a result of their actions.

Arrival & Departure times

Arrival time is from 4pm / Departure time is no later than 10am.

Short Breaks

Short breaks are available out of season and can be booked for a minimum of 3 nights from the following days:

  • Friday to Monday for a 3 night week end break
  • Monday to Friday for a 4 night mid week break

During November to February arrival days may be more flexible nearer the time, although these exclude Sundays and any holidays.

Bed Linen & Towels

Bed linen and towels are provided.

Heating & Electric

Gas central heating and electric are included in the accommodation price (logs are not provided but can be purchased locally).

Infant facilities

Travel cot (there is no bedding provided for the travel cot) high chair & stair gate. 


Maximum of two well-behaved dogs welcome at an additional cost of £25 each (to be kept downstairs only).


Complimentary Wi-Fi is available. The owner cannot guarantee the availability or speed of the service as this is dependent on third party suppliers.


There is parking for two cars in the parking area just above the cottage.

**Please note that the public track which leads down to CARA Cottage is not owned or serviced by the owner. The track is very uneven and the grass verges and hedges tend to get overgrown.This may be a problem for low slung cars. If in doubt please email for advice before booking**

Location -  CARA Cottage is located just above the main village of Aberdyfi.  There is a steep footpath (Lover's Lane), which runs just below the property and can take you directly into the village via Copperhill Street, or to the beach via the Fire Station end of the public car park. There are also walks close to CARA Cottage leading to Yr Horon, Panorama Walk and Llyn Barfog (Bearded Lake).

Access, Health and Safety

The maximum occupancy is 5 guests (does not include an infant under 2 years in a travel cot).

The cottage is set on a steep slope and has a small rock face to the front and rear of the property. The gardens are not enclosed and may be unsuitable for young children. 

Access to CARA - from the parking area follow the public footpath and steps down to the double black gates on your right. Follow the path in front of the 3 cottages (please take care as the path is uneven) CARA is the end cottage. As there is limited lighting to the property, a torch is advisable if arriving late or in the dark especially during the winter months. Access to the property is difficult for guests with mobility issues.

Please contact us immediately if there are any specific needs you may have, including disability needs. It is essential that we are given as much information as possible about your requirements to avoid booking an unsuitable property. Some locations do not lend themselves to easy access and facilities, so please ask first to avoid disappointment. The choice is ultimately the responsibility of the person booking the property, and we cannot be held responsible should a property be booked that is unsuitable or inappropriate.

The village is a 5 minute stroll away, in a stunning location, and the cottage comes equipped with everything you may need to make your stay enjoyable. Fantastic place, can't wait to come back again - we have already booked our summer holiday here.

My favourite place. I have visited CARA on a number of occasions with my boyfriend, and it occurred to me last time I stayed that I have never left a review. CARA Cottage is one of my favourite places in the world. Gorgeous cottage and amazing view! We had a fabulous stay in CARA cottage with our family over half term and highly recommend it. Everything had been provided to make us welcome and ensured a comfortable stay. The view was amazing to wake up to and the log burner lovely in the evening. Excellent Cottage with Stunning View. Our family spent a week in Cara and had a thoroughly superb holiday. The cottage itself is immaculate and really well equipped, and the location is perfect; close to town, beach, train, great walks and a panorama you'll never get bored of! Would definitely recommend.

Wow what a view, Absolutely stunning views from the living room and main bedroom. We had our breakfast on the front lawn absolute bliss.The cottage was clean well-presented and had everything to make your holiday enjoyable. Very comfortable bed and a good shower. Property is only a short walk from pubs restaurants shops beach golf. Lots of things in the cottage to keep the children entertained. We will definitely be booking CARA Cottage again.
