Nestled in a tranquil setting with woodland walks on your doorstep, this attractive lodge is an ideal base for families in southern Snowdonia overlooking the Dyfi Estuary.

Surrounded by a tapestry of ancient woodland that once formed part of the Welsh Celtic Rainforest, this simply presented yet comfortable lodge sleeps six in complete solitude with an abundance of walks within easy reach. The ancient town of Machynlleth is 6 miles away for a day trip with a difference thanks to the eco-friendly vibe and bustling market. For those with a keen interest in history, Corris, 8 miles away, is an old mining town steeped in heritage complete with old mining workings and a popular craft centre that’s home to shops, attractions and activities. Beautiful Aberdovey is 3 miles away and promises a traditional day beside the seaside where the youngest visitors can build sandcastles on the golden sandy beach and try their hand at crabbing. For active-minded visitors, you’ll be spoiled for choice with the water sports on offer, and there is an 18-hole championship golf course if you prefer to stay firmly on dry land.

Enter via the porch to find a spacious hallway equipped with useful storage and a downstairs wet room, then step through to the kitchen to prepare a mug of something warm and soothing. Simply presented in a country cottage style, the kitchen has an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and a microwave for cooking up a storm and clearing away afterwards. There’s even a breakfast bar for casual breakfasts whilst reading the papers. Next, the lounge/diner has full-length wooden-framed doors, comfortable furniture and a TV, plus a large dining table with ample seating for your party. Grab a bowl of buttery popcorn and watch your favourite films or challenge the family to an evening of board games at the table, warmed by the crackling wood burner. There is a single bedroom on the ground floor suitable for disabled access with a wet room close by. You’ll next find the stairs to the rear that lead up to the bedrooms and bathroom. The large bathroom has beamed ceilings, a roll-top bath, a separate shower and a WC, and the king-size bedroom has the added bonus of an en-suite shower room and WC. Completing this level is a super-king-size bedroom and a pretty twin room, both equipped with handy storage and bedroom furniture.

Outside, the decked sun terrace is safely enclosed. Pull up a chair and enjoy a glass of wine at sunset or gather everyone together to dine alfresco. Off-road parking is available to the front of the property, and from here there are oodles of woodland walks to investigate including a trail to walk to Lyn Barfog, the Bearded Lake.

The cottage was wonderful and the photos do not do it justice as it has recently had a new slate patio with metal railings so you get a good view of the estuary from the patio and the lounge, also the driveway is now tarmac with gated access. We would highly recommend any one staying here. Note: the property also has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, sleRead moreeping for 7 people with the downstairs bedroom and bathroom for a disabled or elderly person. Hide

A lovely comfortable cottage with a beautiful view. On the whole well equipped. Central for visiting places. Some essentials were made available on arrival including treats for the dogs - very welcoming. Nearest place we found to walk the dogs was the beach at Aberdovey (5 minute car ride). On the whole set out beautifully.

Location

Map
Note: As the postcode is used to identify the general area of the property, it may not always reflect its precise location, therefore please only use this map as a guide.

Mid-West Wales is a land full of green hills and clear seas. With the spine of the Cambrian Mountains to the east and the hidden coves of the Ceredigion coastline carving out marvellous openings all along the western shoreline, it’s a mecca for those who crave outstanding natural surroundings. There are also charming villages and quaint seaside towns dotted here and there, giving you the chance to try a regional delicacy or speak to some friendly locals.

A thriving harbour resort just within the Snowdonia National Park boundaries, Aberdovey, meaning river mouth, also lies inside Wales’ only UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the Dyfi Biosphere. With Cader Idris looming in the distance, Aberdovey enjoys a complementary fusion of dense woodland and a golden beach where the River Dyfi meets Cardigan Bay.

Also near the River Dyfi are Pennal and Cwrt, two villages which lie on the River Sychan, which feeds the River Dyfi. Small in size but with natural grandeur, these villages have walks which provide magnificent vistas and if you’re lucky, you may even spot wild otters holding hands by the river’s edge.

Moving away from the river, you can follow the ‘Happy Valley’ which leads all the way to Tywyn. You’ll pass scenic splendour as the road twists and turns past the ‘Bearded Lake’. Tywyn is a beautiful seaside base for all types of excursions. Stroll the large, sandy beach or visit the Talyllyn Railway, that journeys deep into the hills.

We have a handpicked collection of self-catering properties along southern Snowdonia on the banks of the Dyfi Estuary. Whether it’s Aberdovey, Pennal and Cwrt or Tywyn, we’ve got dog-friendly, large, luxury and coastal accommodation to suit your needs.
